Eggman ------------ property of SEGA
....who was in fact (RETCON) an Ivo Kintobar from another timeline who lost to Sonic, downloaded his consciousness onto a satellite that fell through space, into the original dimension where he assembled the Dark Swat-Bots and other such machinery until the TRUE Ivo Robotnik died more then a decade ago and he managed to download his consciousness into a new cloned body and became the legendarily badly named....Eggman.
....Retcons are weird. Interesting, but weird
Sounds to me like they made things more complicated than it needed to be.
Mecha Robotnik was a long time villain, but they never really explained him. The TRUE Ivo Robotnik dying was thematic and showed the comic could evolve, but many wanted him back. Mecha Robotnik I think was kept around as a backup Robotnik, one that was slightly less evil then the original and the Freedom Fighters didn't have CONSTANT traumatic issues with.
And if want insane continuity, here's another one. Did you know Shadow is actually in the original Sonic timeline comics now? And I don't just mean figuratively, I mean literally! Remember how, in the alternate universe timeline of Sonic X, Shadow died protecting the earth and the only thing left was his bracelet....well apparently he DIDN'T die, but was blasted ALL THE WAY into the main timeline. This version of Sonic has no memory of Shadow cause the original Sonic never stayed on Earth for any lengthy period of time.
Sonic X was strange all the way around. I hated Chris Thorndyke like most and this is just my opinion but Sonic has no place taking place on earth. Keep it on mobius where you have one human type character(Eggman) doing battle with the Anthros.
I do remember Shadow's death from Sonic X but thinking of it any other way makes my brain hurt. LOL! Or, what you could do is just pretend that series never happened. LOL!
Here's what I would have done as far as Eggman/ Robotnik is concerned. I would have made him the last of his kind an anomaly that views himself as some kind of God. He goes around from planet to planet defeating them with his technology, sucking up their resources. He views it as a game but when he gets to Mobius He has a hard time defeating it because for the first time, the inhabitants of this planet put up a real fight. For once It's a challenge for him. He enjoys it and hates it all at the same time. He is able to use his full genius trying to find ways to conquer Mobius but he is always defeated.
That's what it was in the Sonic the Hedgehog, that's what it was in Sonic the Hedgehog SatAM, the original comics, and so forth until Sonic X created a bastardization timeline of a series.
Welcome to Sonic X, where everyone important dies pointlessly, and everyone pointless lives forever it seems. God, Croc's gang was SO useless!
Well, the problem with Robotnik is long-standing continuity. He's an Overlander, and so is Snivley, the Mobius term for a human. Making Robotnik less then human and more like Sauron would not allow us to enjoy his sadistic, personal nature. If you look up Robotnik's family tree, its very complicated. One of the weirdest discrepancies is that Ivo knew his name was Ivo Kintobar, but he changed it to Robotnik as an obvious villain name....but, by a big screw up by the Sonic X team, the legendary scientist Gerald, Ivo's grandfather, referred to himself as Gerald Robotnik!
You see, the reason why Robotnik calls Snivley 'nephew' is because Robotnik had a brother named Colin who had an ingenious son that Ivo took under his wing...Colin was openly racist against mobians, but never to the point where he thought everything should be roboticized. He tried to defeat his brother, but was turned into a metal statue.
Colin had a second child who was put in deep sleep, and like most Kintobar's, was a technological genius. When she woke up, however, she was revealed to be uncommenly pure of heart. The main reasons Shadow stays in this universe is because he's found happiness protecting Hope and has made friends in several of the female cast.
I wish I was a little more in tune with the Sonic universe but sadly, most of what you're talking about goes over my head. I am familiar with a few things here and there but I suppose not enough to have an in depth conversation with.
All in all, I set out to create a sinister piece regardless of whether or not my interpretation of the character is 100% accurate both in appearance and background information. I think I accomplished that. It is nice to know a bit of the history though and I appreciate you filling me in.
I gotta say. I wasn't too fond of Sonic X. I wish they'd do another animated series that gets back to it's roots.
I doubt Eggman would be depicted as being truly evil in such a film but one can dream.
Thanks for the fave.
Robotnik is badass, even the light and comical version from the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog was a complete douche
Glad you like it though. Thanks.
As for people being sued, having crappy writers is a thing that trancends all ages.
We all know the real eggman, even if the comics forget it. And I really love this
If they ever portray Eggman in a creepy/twisted way, they'd pretty much have to make everyone else somewhat darker to fit in, as well as the story.
While he is a versatile character, I guess the drawback to such a character like him is that to maintain a cutesy, kiddie show, you have to keep the pretty much primary villain an all rounder type guy.
Lets face it, as much as I love Sonic, tails, and the rest of the crew, if they ever made Eggman super evil/twisted, having the rest of the cast as they are right now would feel out of place.
Thanks for the fave and the comment.
I never thought Eggman was particularly intimidating, but the character is extremely versatile. He can be comic relief, a minor annoyance, an antihero, and an all-out bone-deep force of evil that darn near conquers the world - all in one game.
Wonderful texturing job on his face!
Thanks for the comment.
I really like the details & colours here.
